Kilwin's: A Tale of Two Ice Cream ShopsOkay, Ghirardelli is still my favorite spot for chocolate and for ice cream confections that have it drizzled on top, but I have a new favorite for pure flavored ice cream. Kilwin’s, which is actually part of a franchise that has retail locations in primarily historical tourist destinations in the East, is located in downtown Celebration in the former Herman’s. Kilwin’s has delicious homemade style candies and confections like caramel apples, heavenly hash, and fudge. As for flavor and variety, they carry the best ice cream. Most flavors are named for a city where one of the franchises is located. For example, there is Celebration Mud and Traverse City Cherry. My favorites are toasted coconut and the praline pecan. Where Ghirardelli specializes in old-fashioned sundaes and pure chocolate, Kilwin’s specializes in pure ice cream and their variety of old-fashioned treats.
