West Orange Trail: Scenic Recreational Trail

West Orange Trail: Scenic Recreational Trail

The West Orange Trail is a 19 mile multi-use trail owned by Orange County Parks and Recreation. The trail, for the most part, was built on old railroad routes as part of the Rails-to-Trails program, which converted unused tracks to public trails. The trail passes through downtown Oakland, Winter Garden, and Apopka. The trail runs along some main roads and in other locations, passes through rural countryside. The trail is asphalt and 14 feet wide, making it popular for a variety of activities, such as walking, running, biking, and roller-blading. For horse-back riders, an equestrian trail runs parallel to the paved trail for 10 miles. There are a handful of stations and outposts along the trail.
